OPTION B:  Facing Adversity, Building Resilience and Finding Joy

Soul Sista Cafe, Huntsville

Join us for an evening of sharing and brainstorming around building resilience in our own lives and communities. How the human spirit has the capacity to endure and even thrive in the face of adversity.

Patti Kay Hanrath with lead us with a review of the book, Option B: Facing Adversity, Building Resilience, and Finding Joy. This is co-authored by Sheryl Sandberg, COO at Facebook and Adam Grant, psychologist and professor at Wharton School.

After the sudden death of her husband, Sheryl felt certain that she and her children would never feel pure joy again. Her friend, Adam Grant, shared with her that there are concrete steps people can take to recover and rebound from life-shattering experiences. We are not born with a fixed amount of resilience. It is a muscle that everyone can build. Resilience comes from deep within us and from support outside us. We all live some form of Option B. Come and join us and together we can build our resilience muscle!

Morgan Richter, Morgan's Mouth Watering Moments - Lilac Local Source Catering

Growing up in Huntsville, I have a deep connection with the community and a drive for creativity and community development. My passion lies in sustainability within the North American food regime – food security is at the forefront of my interest. I love recipe creation and working with local agri-food producers. Serving delicious and local food, as well as sharing the stories of where the food comes from inspires me and I hope to educate those around me. I'm happiest when I'm in the kitchen and I hope you feel the love and enjoy the meal! Cheers!

Cathy Smith, Fairy Mill Guest House

This guest house business started out with my husband and I watching this house (it has curb appeal!) every time we came into town. Then it was sold and we really started seeing changes being made and obviously we really had to keep an eye on it.  A couple of years later we saw it advertised in the paper as power of sale and we just had to have a look. Sadly It had been turned into a drug house and was now three apartments.  We were very disheartened so we bought it and what started as a little hobby doing some renovations morphed into a lovely business which has attracted guests from all over the world and regulars who proudly call our house their home.

The Four Pillars of Holistic Health ..

1. Nutrition: the building blocks of our physiology. There is no such thing as the "Mind-Body Connection", they are simply the same thing! Mind and body are chemically limited by what we provide it with - our food! This segment reviews the importance of including fresh and whole foods, and the simple science of doing so behind keeping physically and mentally well.

2. Balance: Optimal Health means sometimes choosing the cheesecake! In this segment we will explore concepts that support the 70% rule and making choices that are "best in the moment".

3. Empowerment: Each day is an opportunity to change your life! During this segment we will discuss how to tap into core values to discover our gifts, and true power to change the world around us for the better.

4. Self-awareness: We all have individual biochemical and emotional needs based on: our personal past, genetics, medical history, and preferences. During this last segment, we will discover the greatness that comes from the ability to know and appreciate one's individuality.

PASTA HOSTESS, Linda Nardilli Morrin

I am the second generation Canadian of Italian immigrants. Making and eating Italian food is second nature to me (probably genetic!). Although my career path was primarily social work and health care management, when I retired in 2011, I made the decision to share my passion of Italian cooking with others. And that’s when the idea for Pasta Hostess started, and was created as a business on April 28, 2012.  I have my Food Safety Certification and my Master Business License. I am also dedicated to volunteering in my community, as a board member with the Powassan and District Union Public Library since 2010, and supporter of the Commanda Community Centre’s fundraising activities over 10 years.

THE un-Makeing of an Entrepreneur

Erin believes that one of the most empowering things an entrepreneur can experience is a sense of alignment between her spirit, intellect, heart and actions.   It is from here that creativity and abundance flows, allowing us to be fulfilled while giving generously of ourselves. Finding this alignment is a lifelong adventure, and opportunity for great learning!  Erin will share how her experiences of spirituality have led her to pursue a somewhat atypical career, the lessons she is learning on her journey, and how those are impacting how she approaches all aspects of her life, including her work.  An engaging and insightful storyteller, she will entertain and inspire us to consider our own story, our beliefs about our self, and how these relate to the work we pursue as entrepreneurs.

Kelly Hammond, OM Health & Wellness

will share her Nepal adventure, chat about how that changed her path

and where she is heading next.

_____________________________________________

Kelly has spent many years volunteering and fundraising for different organizations and charities both locally and globally. Most notably, her contributions to our local Habitat for Humanity and the national Dreams Take Flight, in the amount of $12,000 each through her fundraising efforts with with Dream Mountains Foundation.

Her successful summit of Kilimanjaro in 2011 and most recently, her redirected 2015 trek to Everest Base Camp have been publicized throughout the area and she continues to volunteer and contribute to her world as a proud member of the Rotary Club of Huntsville.

Her life long dream of trekking to Everest Base Camp was cut short with the catastrophic Nepal earthquake that not only injured Kelly, but claimed the lives of almost 9,000, injured over 20,000 Nepali and left hundreds of thousands homeless. The earthquake redirected her trip and although she didn't make it to Everest, she found love and light among the ruins of Kathmandu, causing a transformation in her life as well.

She now owns and operates a health coaching business in Huntsville, encouraging others to find love and light in every day, to stay positive and move forward regardless of the twists in their paths on this amazing journey though life.
